cat says:
I first became interested in aromatherapy back in 1989 when I was studying in Southampton. I remember seeing a copy of The Fragrant Pharmacy in my local library and being intrigued and inspired by the contents.
Since then I have experimented with using oils as mood enhancers and for clearing a stuffy nose whenever I've had a cold.
A couple of months ago I enrolled on a 1 day course in aromatherapy at my local college. Although I already knew quite a lot of what we were told, I'd never tried any of the massage techniques. I became quite enthusiatic about giving aromatherapy massages and my fiance was thrilled!
A few weeks after this, I was having such pain from tension in my shoulder that I thought I'd try going for a professional aromatherapy massage. The session itself did not relax me as much as I thought it would. Apparently you would tend to feel more relaxed after a few sessions, when it's not such a new experience. But by the end of it I felt like I was in another world. I returned home, and promptly fell asleep for a couple of hours in the middle of the afternoon. This was probably down to the oils that the aromatherapist had used.
Afterwards I felt very chilled out mentally, but the session hadn't done a great deal for my shoulder.
